Safety
It is important to us that Nysse’s service is safe throughout your entire journey. Take a moment to read our instructions so your trips run as smoothly and worryfree as possible.
1. Tell the driver right away if you notice anything unusual or scary on the bus, tram, or at the stop. If you call the emergency number yourself, let the driver know that too.
2. Call the emergency number 112 if:
- someone has a medical emergency
- you see a fire
- someone is acting threateningly or there is violence
- you are unable to inform the driver
- there is a person or object on the tracks or road that could cause danger.
3. When you call 112, tell them:
- who you are
- what has happened
- which bus or tram line you are on
- your exact location.
If you use the 112 Suomi app, it will automatically show your location to the emergency operator.
Do not end the call until you are told to do so.
When a bus approaches the stop, wave your hand in good time to show that you want to get on.
- Use a reflector or your phone’s light to make yourself more visible in the dark.
- The driver has seen your signal when the bus indicator turns toward the stop.
- You don’t need to signal a tram – it stops at every stop.
Step back and give space for the arriving vehicle. Make sure children stay away from the edge of the platform.
- A bus’s front can swing toward the stop, and the rear can move up to 1.4 meters toward the platform when departing.
- Stay far enough from the edge of the roadway and watch out for side mirrors.
- In winter, buses may slide on the stop area, so keep a safe distance.
Cross the street at a pedestrian crossing (or at a designated crossing point).
- Never run across the road in front of or behind a bus or tram.
- Cutting across traffic lanes is not allowed.
- At the crossing points on Hämeenkatu in Tampere, you must give way to other traffic. Always make sure the road is clear before crossing.
Hold on to the poles or hand straps when you stand or move inside the bus or tram.
Keep holding on even if you have your phone in your hand, so you don’t fall if the vehicle jerks or sways.
Take care of your small child:
- Never leave your child alone.
- Put the stroller brakes on and keep a hand on the stroller at all times.
- On the bus, place the stroller so that its right side faces the direction of travel and position it behind the front seats. The seat backs help protect your child if the bus needs to brake suddenly.
Use mobility aids safely.
- Make sure your wheelchair, rollator, or other aid stays upright and doesn’t block the aisle.
- For safety reasons, you must not ride scooters, skateboards, or other wheeled devices inside buses or trams.
Use the tram’s emergency brake only if there is a person or dangerous object on the tracks and the danger cannot be avoided in any other way.
- The emergency brake may also be used if the tram has started moving and someone is trapped in the doors.
- Misuse of the emergency brake is strictly prohibited.
In an evacuation, listen to the instructions given by the driver, rescue personnel, or other authorities.
- If the vehicle stops due to a disruption, stay in place and wait for further instructions.
- Exit only when you are told it is safe to do so.
- In tramway areas, there may be live electrical wires outside the vehicle, and trams may still be moving on the tracks.
In case of fire:
- Move away from the source of the fire if possible and follow the staff’s instructions.
- Use the available fireextinguishing equipment if necessary. Their locations are marked inside the vehicle.
- If the vehicle is in a tunnel, make sure you know the correct evacuation direction.
Camera surveillance
Public transport vehicles are equipped with recording camera surveillance. The surveillance is maintained by the bus operators and, for trams, by Tampere Tramway Ltd.
The purpose of the surveillance is to prevent disturbances and vandalism, and the recorded footage may also be used to investigate crimes.
Take care of your belongings both at the stop and during your journey.
Items kept in an open bag or pocket are easy targets for pickpockets.
If you become a victim of a crime while using public transport, file a police report as soon as possible.
After the investigation has begun, the police may request video recordings from the operator responsible for the camera system. Recorded footage is stored only for a limited time.
Photography and recording in public transport
Public transport vehicles and stops are public places. Photography and recording are allowed, but remember that you cannot publish all the material you capture.
- Publishing images that violate a person’s privacy or dignity is not permitted.
- It is polite to ask the person you are photographing or recording for permission and to explain how the photo or video will be used.
- Avoid using bright flash or lighting devices, as they may disturb the driver or other passengers.
