Zones
Three zone system
Nysse service area is divided into zones A, B and C. The heart of the area is in Tampere in the A and B zones, which are surrounded by the C zone. The zone boundaries are based on the service provision of the regions.
In addition to Tampere, the service area includes Kangasala, Lempäälä, Nokia, Orivesi, Pirkkala, Vesilahti and Ylöjärvi. Valkeakoski uses the Nyssen ticketing system, but transport is organised by the city of Valkeakoski and the Pirkanmaa Ely Centre.
Buy a ticket for zones AB, BC or ABC
The ticket price depends on whether you choose two or three zones. A two-zone ticket is the cheapest option, even if you only travel in one zone. Select the zones
- with a bus or tram ticket device, when you pay for your trip with contactless payment
- In Nysse Mobiil, when you buy a single or day ticket before your trip
- In the Nella.fi online service or at a point of sale, when you buy a ticket for a travel card.
View the zone boundaries in the Nysse Journey Planner
The zone limits can be displayed on the Nysse Journey Planner map. Make the zones visible in the service settings. The zones are also shown in the stop information in Nysse's timetable services.
Are the travel card zones not suitable for your trip?
If your travel card has a ticket for AB zones, and you are about to travel for example through BC zones, buy a single ticket in the bus or tram with the value of the travel card.
- Press Change zones on the ticket device.
- Select zones.
- Use the travel card in the reader.
On ticket devices located at railway stations, zones cannot be changed.
F.A.Q. Zone reform
No. The ticket on your travel card will automatically change if it contains zones D, E or F that are linked to zone C.
No you don't, the zones on the ticket are automatically changed when you use the ticket card on a ticket machine on a bus, tram or station platform. The ticket zones change as follows:
- Tickets in zones AB, BC and ABC remain unchanged.
- The tickets for zones ABCD, ABCDE and ABCDEF become tickets for three zones ABC.
- The tickets for zones BCD, BCDE, BCDEF, CD, CDE, CDEF, EF, DE and DEF will become two-zone tickets BC.
You will continue to choose zones B and C. If you use a travel card, your current ticket will automatically become a zone B and C ticket.
If you wish, you can return the remaining season ticket on your travel card and buy a new one. This is not necessary, as the ticket will still work in the selected zones after the change: zones D-F will automatically become zone C on the ticket.
Please note that benefit tickets (e.g. employer-subsidised tickets) are non-refundable.
For season tickets valid for more than 30 days, a handling fee of €7.00 will be charged for the first and up to five full 30-day periods (up to a total of six handling fees). If the value of the refund is less than the handling fee, no refund will be made.
Until the change, you will need a ticket for five zones for your journey. However, you should consider when to buy your ticket, as from 16 January 2024 the cheaper three-zone ticket will also cover the current zones D, E and F.
The tickets for zones A-E purchased before the change will automatically become tickets for three zones A-C.
No, the minimum amount of zones to buy remains two. Always choose at least two adjacent zones for your ticket, even if you only travel in one zone. A two-zone ticket is the cheapest option. This will allow you to travel to the adjacent zone of your choice at the same fare as within your own zone.
The 90-day season ticket is currently only available for two zones and this will be the case also in the tree-zones-system. After the reform, you can buy a ticket for zones AB or BC. The ticket is only available for adult travel cards on Nella.fi.
Ticket prices will not change with the zone reform. In fact, for those who have tickets for 4 to 6 zones, prices will decrease, as they will only need a ticket for 2 or 3 zones.
The ticket selection will remain the same and the minimum number of adjacent zones purchased will continue to be two: AB, BC or ABC.
The zones of a ticket purchased with a travel card may be updated on Nella.fi with a delay.
Pre-purchased advance tickets for zones C-D can be used after the change for zones B and C.
Yes, you can buy a season ticket on a travel card to wait (you will need zones B and C on the ticket after the change). However, remember that before the reform, this ticket will not be valid in zone D.
