What’s this about?
The City of Tampere launched a "financial balance" program in connection with the 2026 budget process. The goal is to balance income and expenses so that the income statement result is zero or positive in the 2029 budget proposal.
Public transport savings measures are part of the program. Expenses will be reduced by scaling back transport services during "quieter" periods. The changes will mainly affect weekdays around public holidays when passenger numbers are significantly lower than usual. Since the program requires annual measures, service reductions during holiday periods will continue in future operating seasons. Revenue can be increased, for example, by raising ticket prices.
