The journey planner accompanies the passenger
The journey planner has a long history. Repa Journey Planner, which was already in use in the mid-2000s, was one of the city’s most popular online services. It offered passengers the ability to search for connections between different locations at a time when information often had to be gathered from multiple sources. Alongside Repa was Lissu Traffic Monitor, which displayed the location of buses and estimated arrival times at stops.
As the renewal of Nysse’s digital services sped up in the second half of the 2010s, one of the most visible changes was the new journey planner. The new service made it easy to track real-time traffic information on one’s own mobile device, and it also began offering multiple route options and important stop information. At the same time, some of the old services were phased out, and the timetable booklet, for example, was discontinued.
Easy to use and customize
The journey planner is available in your browser at reittiopas.tampere.fi/en and in the Nysse Mobiili app. No registration is required. To plan your trip, simply enter your starting point and destination. You can also allow the service to locate your position.
The trip search brings together different route options, travel times, possible transfers, and walking times in one view. It includes all Nysse modes of transport: bus, tram, train, and city bike. Trip information is updated in real time. If the schedule changes or a connection is delayed, the information is displayed immediately.
Always in your pocket
In the past, public transportation mainly meant vehicles and schedules. The bus ran on its own schedule, and passengers had to adapt to it.
Now, expectations have changed. Passengers want to choose the route that suits them best, compare options, and get information tailored to their specific situation. Whereas people previously relied on a familiar route, now the journey planner provides options, real-time information, and guidance directly to the passenger’s phone throughout the entire trip.
